At present Jim is making a name for himself on the Irish trad scene. He is also in demand for other acoustic styles, blues and jazz - and for other instruments; electric guitar, bass and slide.
Jim plays regularly with blues harmonica player Matt Walklake and trad player / composer Grace Kelly.
As well as performing and recording with his friend and mentor the late Andy Dinan, Jim also studied folk fiddle with him.
Jim is a balance of self taught intuition and formal music education. Jim graduated from Newcastle University in 2018 with a degree in Folk and Traditional Music. There he was tutored by Chris Newman and Mick Wright.
While at University Jim formed the popular gypsy Jazz duo, The Hot Club of Fenham, with his friend Robbie Sherratt.
Later, Jim formed the Gypsy Jazz Trio, Northern Swing, with Josh Todosijczuck and Fred Diamond before concentrating on Folk and Irish Traditional Music.
